On World’s Environment Week

On World Environment Week, let’s pay attention to our shared responsibility in preserving the environment. Worldwide, spaces crucial for human survival, such as forests, water bodies, agricultural lands, and ecosystems, are at risk. According to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, 40% of Earth’s land is currently undergoing degradation. Additionally, the frequency and duration of droughts have increased by 29% from 2000 to the present day. Without corrective actions in the future, this trend could have critical consequences for the majority of the global population.

Therefore, the United Nations has chosen “land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience” as this year’s environmental theme. Let’s adopt cleaner, greener lifestyles and harmonize with nature to create a more sustainable life and world for today and the future. Together, we can make a positive impact on our surrounding environment.

On this note, each of us has duties that can be viewed from two aspects in this regard.:

The first and crucial aspect is being sensitive to this subject and having a sustainable mindset in our responsibilities, decisions, and work activities. The decisions, actions, requests, and activities of each of us in our organizational roles can have positive or negative environmental implications. Therefore, we must view sustainable thinking and perspective as a key tool in today’s world. To achieve this, the first step is a proper understanding of how our job functions impact the environment, followed by efforts to align them with the concept of sustainability.

The second aspect pertains to general activities and personal lifestyle. Optimizing energy and water resource consumption (both at work and at home), limiting the use of non-biodegradable materials, energy management, and promoting environmental awareness through various methods like educating children, engaging in conversations, expressing concerns and etc. all fall under our collective responsibility toward the environment.

The Earth needs our assistance more than ever before, this effort is essential for the continued quality of life of the humankind.
